Welcome from UWC East Africa

Welcome to the new school year

Dear UWC East Africa community,

Whether new to the school or well known to us, I warmly welcome you to the 2024/25 school year. Students have been in class now for over a week and the staff have been back for longer. Despite some normal, last-minute changes, the year has started smoothly. You will have already received the first newsletter from Phil Bowen and Bob Cofer, Head of Arusha and Moshi Campus respectively, and started to see some of what we are up to at school. Again we predict a vibrant year both in and out of the classroom.

Five-year report

Please find our recently published five-year report here. This report is full of information about the school with a focus on how the school has developed since joining the UWC movement in 2019, as well as what makes our school unique.

Endowment fund

We believe that the benefits of being part of the UWC movement are seen throughout the school daily. That said, part of being a UWC school is our commitment to providing scholarships at a diploma level. Whilst year on year the school has been successful in fundraising for these scholarships, we are now focussed on establishing an endowment which will help secure this funding in perpetuity. More information on the endowment can be found here or please reach out to me if you have any questions or expertise that you would like to share. This is a new venture for the school and we will only be successful if we work together. Our webpage, whilst live, will continue to be updated.

Mpox

The mpox outbreak that started in the DRC has been hitting the news frequently in recent weeks. Whilst individual cases have been detected in East Africa, there have been no reported cases in Tanzania. Whilst the risk to our students is currently very low, we are continuing to monitor this recent outbreak of the disease and will keep you informed if the situation changes. Up-to-date and reliable information can be found at the WHO and CDC websites. We have had a small number of students approaching us for more information, please talk to your children and will meet with residential students over the coming days.

Thank you for trusting your child with us and I look forward to getting to know many of you throughout the year.

Kind regards,

Anna Marsden
