UWC East Africa Arusha Campus NTSAA Information

Wednesday 11th September 2024

Dear Students and Parents,

As we look forward to another year of sport, the Management Team and the PHE Departments have discussed how we can better achieve our aim of involving more of our students in our sport programme. Whilst some of our students have a strong desire to be part of a competitive team there are many others who wish to play sport for recreational purposes too.

For many years, our school has been an involved member of the Northern Tanzania Schools Athletic Association (NTSAA). This year we have decided to take a step back from many of the activities organised by that organisation so that we can take part in sport arranged by ourselves. We feel that by organising matches and tournaments ourselves we can satisfy the needs of a greater number of our students.

An example of one of the changes, certainly for older players, will be to try to arrange 11-a-side football matches that last 90 minutes. This will enable more students to play and for longer. We will also be able to choose from a greater number of opponents, (including our sister campus!) and invite them to our facilities to play.

One of the frustrations of being part of the NTSAA leagues was that much time was spent standing around waiting for next games to begin. We would rather play fewer teams on a day but for longer.

Another hope is that we can get more age groups playing sport as we won’t have to abide by the NTSAA pre-designated sport seasons.

We will continue to take part in and arrange the NTSAA Athletics and NTSAA Swimming galas.

Thank you for your understanding and hope that you or your child get more out of our sport programme because of this decision.

Sincerely

Phil
