This is just a short newsletter to let you know what is happening when we return next week. Many of our residential students are arriving back on Sunday and Monday but classes will not start until Tuesday at the normal 7:30am start time.
This week will be short, but with the MYP MAP Tests, the Science Fair, Prom, and the Market it may not feel that way.
While the D2 students have study week heading into exams next week we will officially say goodbye to them Friday with the traditional assembly and clap out. Congratulations to you on your hard work and good luck with the exams to come.
Many of the D2 students have accepted places for next year and we will share more about this in the next few weeks.
Enjoy the rest of the break and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Market Day
On Friday April 25th we will have the next Farmers’ Market on Campus. We look forward to you joining us then. Please note our next one will not be until Friday June 6th due to exams and ceremonies on campus. This means for D2 students this is your last market before you graduate.
PYP News
Welcome back for the final quarter of the school year and an especial welcome to those new families who are joining us in the PYP. We hope you and your children all enjoyed the holiday. There are no afternoon clubs for at least the first week. Coach Pickell will email a link when the afternoon clubs schedule has been finalised. If you are willing to offer a club, please email me on deborahmills@uwcea.org or Coach Pickell on joshpickell@uwcea.org.
Yearbook photos will be taken on Thursday, 24th April. Please ensure your child is wearing a school T-shirt. On Friday, 25th April, the primary children will participate in the D2 clap out at approximately midday. The children will line the breezeway to say goodbye to our Diploma students. If you have Uja students in D2, or if you just want to come and say goodbye, please feel free to attend. Saturday football will begin on 26th April 9:00 – 10:30am.
The week beginning 28th April will be MAP assessment week for P4 – 6 children. The week will also be a Student Government organised Spirit Week. Here is some advance warning regarding the themes so that you and your children can start planning what to wear. If you have children in different sections of the school, please note that the PYP and secondary themes are slightly different.
Monday 28th – sporty clothes (a sports jersey if you have one).
Tuesday 29th – patterned clothes – spots, stripes, checks. Try to wear as many patterns as you can.
Wednesday 30th – Twins or pairs day. Either dress like a friend(s) so you look like twins/triplets or you and a friend can dress as a pair from movies or books (Superman and Batman, Harry Potter and Hermione, peanut butter and jelly)
Thursday 1st May – public holiday
Friday 2nd May – anything but a bag day. Put your school materials in anything except a bag! You could use a laundry basket, a helmet, a shoe box, etc.
Participation in spirit days is optional – your child does not have to join in if he/she does not want to. However, the purpose is to build a feeling of school spirit, plus dressing up can be lots of fun, so we hope that lots of the children will participate.
Please see below for a glimpse of what will be happening in each class the first week back.
EC/P1
We are looking forward to starting a new quarter and welcoming three new students to our class community. We will start the week with storytelling as we lay the groundwork for our upcoming unit. Throughout the week, children will share their holiday news and orally tell creative stories. They will also be able to illustrate a story as we unpack what it means to express one’s ideas.
P2/3
We are excited about the upcoming quarter in P2/3! We have two weeks left in our wonderful Jobs unit and they will be busy. The Primary Post will be opening our first day back! All students will be encouraged to write letters to one another. It will be our job to get those letters picked up, sorted and delivered! We enjoyed seeing jobs in the community during our field trip to NEI where we saw vanilla production. Thanks to Baba Hugo for the invitation. Please mark your calendars for May 2nd as our class will be presenting at the Primary Gathering!
P4/5
The P4/5 class will be looking at the factors that compel refugees to leave their homes and the different challenges that they face. The children will decorate the clay cups they made before the break. In maths they will continue with fractions.
P6
We will be starting a new unit of inquiry on governmental systems and how decisions can promote or deny equal opportunities and social justice. In Maths, we will continue our work on decimals. In Language, we will explore modal verbs/adverbs and begin persuasive writing.

Diploma News
There is a lot to look forward to over the next few weeks for both our D1 and D2 students. This coming week, the D2 students are on study leave. Although they don’t have official classes, their teachers are available to support as they prepare for their exams starting at the end of April. We also have the D2 final assembly, clap out, pool party and prom next Friday. We will discuss the behavioural expectations for prom with the students this week (and the consequences of misbehaviour) but we are looking forward to a wonderful evening of glitz, glamour and dancing.
The D1 students will begin their exploration of University applications this semester in DSS (as well as preparing their Extended Essay outlines). There are also a number of workshops planned for the next few weeks to help guide the process. It is an exciting time to think ahead to University and the amazing opportunities offered by the Davis Scholarship. UWC is truly unique in what it offers.

KCMC Service
Over the past few months, the KCMC Service Group has been lucky enough to bring joy to the Pediatric Oncology Ward with our quarterly dance clinics. Each session is always a little different, but they’re always full of fun—and our last one was no exception!
Before break, we held an Easter-themed dance clinic that was so much more than just dancing. We kicked things off with some classic Tanzanian childhood games, like Ukuti—a Swahili version of Ring Around the Rosie—and even got the parents involved in the fun. After the games, we shared cake, juice, and even had some coloring activities to keep the creativity flowing!
But the highlight of the day? The DANCING, of course! It was amazing to see one of the children take the lead in teaching the moves, and even more special when the parents led a traditional Maasai dance. The whole point of our visits is simple: to put a smile on the kids’ faces and make their day a little brighter—and trust us, that definitely happened!
We can’t wait for our next clinic next quarter. We’re already dreaming up ways to make it even bigger and more exciting. Stay tuned!
