Many of our teachers competed in yesterday’s triathlon – none more successful than this dynamic trio of Caroline, Miss Carmen and Miss Ellis! Bravo ladies!

Both Campuses have been exerting themselves beyond the limits of reasonable exercise over the past seven days. The 24hour run on Moshi Campus was a booming success with over 50 runners migrating across to Moshi from the Arusha campus. A tremendous effort by all involved. Then yesterday, here in Arusha we hosted a successful Rotary Triathlon. Both events are key fundraisers for the community and we are very appreciative of all our sponsors, however major or minor.

Next weekend, we will be celebrating UWC Day. This day is the annual global celebration of the UWC mission and values, which takes place on 21st September every year, to coincide with the UN International Day of Peace. Each year, UWC Day is celebrated by thousands of people worldwide, including students and staff at UWC schools and colleges, national committees, UWC alumni and friends.

UWC Day is a moment to celebrate the strength and diversity of the UWC movement and our mission for a more peaceful and sustainable future. You can read more about the day at this link https://www.uwc.org/uwcday

It was great to see this week our UWCEA students interact with students from  international schools in Arusha during the UK University Fair we hosted on campus, as they considered their options for future university applications. One student shared with me how special it felt that world-renowned universities invited him to consider studying on their campuses, something he has never experienced before!

Next week will have MYP students embarking on our first curriculum trip this year with the M2 class heading to learn in Pangani, along with their counterparts from Moshi.

We are also conducting our first session of Measures of Academic Progress  (MAP) testing in the primary school for the P4, P5 and P6 students (Sep 16-19) followed by the testing week for M1, M2 and M3 (Sep 23-27). MAP assessments are designed to target a student’s academic performance in mathematics, reading and language usage. M3 students also take a MAP test in Science. These tests are tailored to an individual’s current achievement level and are used by teachers to guide instruction in the classroom, to further support students in areas of growth and develop the curriculum . There is no prior preparation required of students for these tests, so a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast suffice. All parents were sent an email with more information about MAP tests and a detailed schedule of the planned sessions.

PYP had a very busy share time this week. Well done to the new student council leaders Brilliant (president), Dalida (vice-president) and Hamza (Secretary). P2/3 shares beautiful art pieces about things they like to do with their family.

Last week on Friday and Saturday 38 Arusha students accompanied by 6 members of staff participated in the 24hr run event which took place in Moshi. 24hr run is a service event aiming at raising money for scholarship students. The runners through their sponsors managed to raise 2,342,000 Tsh. I would like to thank the sponsors for their contributions, students for their efforts in both looking for sponsors and their hours of running and members of staff who accompanied our students to Moshi. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Arusha Campus PTA is a meeting at which the new PTA Executive Committee is elected. Nominations for candidates for the committee can be received by Phil or Caroline or handed to any current PTA member.

Some our new boarding students require football boots and shorts for the upcoming season. If you have any going spare, we would really appreciate them. All sizes and conditions are welcome. Please donate to Caroline at the main reception.

My name is Gabriel Kalamata with many years of experience of teaching music theory/piano. I follow the ABRSM (The Exam Board of Royal School of Music Curriculum from the UK whereby students  can learn music theory and practical of piano lessons from grade 1-8.

Piano students can take part in ABRSM exams once a year. This is not compulsory. Here are few spaces currently available for piano lessons.

Monday 3;00-3;30 pm and 4;00-5;30
Tuesday 4;00-5;00 pm
Wednesday 3;30-5;30 pm
Thursday 4;00-5;00 pm
