A shortened week this week on account of the Good Friday holiday tomorrow. We had lots of fun this morning as the WHOLE school participated in an egg hunt organised by the Student Council. Mr Olivier was the last to find an egg but found one eventually with the help of Sayan and Ibrahim.

In a period of shortened weeks we are packing in the fun and learning.

This week we have been administering MAP tests in M1-3, following on from the P4-6 tests last week. We will distribute the results to parents before the end of this month. Well done to all the students involved, they have been extremely dedicated and focused.

P2 have been away on their camp at the Harrison’s farm. They had a fantastic time, ably assisted after by Miss Carmen, Miss Sabina and Mr Samwel. Next week P3 travel to Ngare Sero in Usa River for their camp – we wish them well.

The P6 students have been completing their action components for their exhibitions, with talks, demonstrations, competitions taking place. Next week we will also have fun games – please come along and support.

Florian Ciprian Baciu (Romania/United States) – 2019/20 Deputy Head of Campus

I am excited to join the ISM school community as the Deputy Head of Campus in Arusha, following my initial collaboration this summer with the UWC movement, where I served as the Curriculum and Instruction Manager for the Global Leadership Forum at UWC-USA. My passion for outdoor and experiential education stems from my past experience as a Host Country National Educator with the Peace Corps in Romania.  I am a trained aviculturist and an avid permaculture gardener.

I have worked in the field of internationally minded education for 20 years in Romania, USA, Jordan, Japan, UAE and Oman, and served in various instructional, leadership and strategic roles for diverse schools and educational providers.

I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the Arusha Campus at such exciting times in the history of the school and about the chance to explore the diversity and rare beauty of Tanzania!

Griffyn demonstrates his green technology project for his PYP Exhibition to some excited P3 students!

Due to the popularity of the Basic First Aid course that took place in Semester 1 (see above), we are planning to offer another one on Saturday 4 May.  This First Aid course will be running on Arusha Campus for students interested in getting certified in basic First Aid. The course is provided by DAT Emergency Response and covers basic emergency life saving skills (initial response, primary survey, CPR, airway management, recover position, dealing with cuts, bleeding, burns …). It is a 6 hour course and costs 70 000 Tsh. If you are interested or would like to sign-up for this course, please contact Florence Larpent: florence@ismac.ac.tz

We continue to expand the OP programme by offering a new Level 2 mountain biking trip in Moshi area. This will be a 3 day trip on flat and rolling hills terrain. Students who have completed a Level 1 mountain bike trip are eligible to sign-up.  For students who don’t have their own cycling equipment, mountain bikes and helmets are available for rent from the Arusha Bicycle Centre. This week, M5 students completed their mock on-screen examinations in English, Mathematics, Sciences, I&S and Interdisciplinary (English and Sciences). We wish the M5 class all the best for their final MYP on-screen examinations on May 14-24. During that time, M5 students will have a modified timetable where ePortfolio classes will be used as Study Blocks to prepare for exams. There will also be a few optional early relase where students can go home and review at home if they wish. More information will be emailed to M5 students and parents directly.

ISM is excited to host the second edition of the Umoja UWC short course in Tanzania. The course will bring together 24 young individuals from all around the world under the theme “Coming Together to Build Community”.

Anzac Day is the day when Australians and New Zealanders remember loved ones who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. To commemorate this day, there will be a short service held at ISM at 6am on the morning of this date. Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome.
