In Share time on Friday the primary school held their Student Council elections. The number of students who wanted to be part of the council was heart warming. Everybody spoke clearly and confidently. Well done to everyone for participating. Congratulations to our new primary council. President Malaika, Press Secretary Iris, Kibo house captain Griffyn, Meru house captain Tristan, and Mawenzi house captain Jessica. Also a big thanks to Ms Ruth for organising the Student Council this year.
Service opportunities in the community are not just for the students! Next week please come along to the ISMAC Rotary Triathlon. By supporting the event, even as a spectator, you will be helping our Rotary Club of Arusha raise funds for all sorts of projects that help those who are more needy than ourselves. The first race will be at 8am but the events will be running throughout the day. A restaurant and bar will be provided.
One of the local schools that we have been supporting is Kisimani School and this has been managed through a relaionship between our school Interact Club (junior Rotary division) and the school. If you would like to help out at Kisimani, then Leah Leonard (our co-ordinator there) has asked me to broadcast this invitation. If any ISM parents are interested in joining Leah on Monday for a bit of literacy and giving back to an underserved community then you are welcome to join her for a Monday morning outing. Kisimani is the first public primary school in Arusha to follow the English Medium curriculum
Monday at 9:30am, Leah will leave ISM and drive to Kisimani, about 25 minutes to arrive there. Parents can follow her in their own cars, Leah is happy to give a lift to up to four.
Looking for 6-9 parents who would like to visit a government primary school, and do 30 minutes of reading with ages 4-5 students in 2 chekechea classrooms
We are establishing a ‘reading nook’ in each class, and have received 2 donated tents
Leah is also looking for any used/donated book storage ideas, age-appropriate books, as well as floor cushions to go inside the tent, if anyone can help. Feel free to leave any donations at our main reception.
Finally, congratulations to our Under 19 Girls and Boys football teams and our Under 15 Boys basketball team for competing this morning at Arusha Meru school in the first friendly tournament of the year. Special thanks to Mr Ratsakatika, Mr Schutte, Mr Ibrahim and Mr Emond for their committed coaching on the day!
Have a super weekend
Phil
