Ravi prepares for his discus throw at the NTAA Athletics meet on Saturday

This week has seen ISMAC getting out into the community. Mr Acomb is currenty at a school in Austria as part of a CIS Accreditation Team visit, Mr Emond and Mr Tyea are in India on IB training courses whilst our Director Dr Marsden has been to Dar es Salaam to visit the Ministry of Education. Mr Anderson and I went no further than Mt Meru Hotel this week to present our School successfully to Arusha residents and prospective new students. 

The sport in school, and the way we prepare for sport, has come in for constructive criticism this week and so I take this opportuity to re-iterate our appeal for coaches. Please see Miss Peterson if you may be interested in helping prepare and coach some of our teams for NTAA competition. I am about to head to Braeburn for the latest round of U19 Boys Football matches and Under 15 Basketball. Best of luck to our students in these matches and huge thanks and appreciation to these coaches who give time every weekend to manage these teams.

Finally, a shadow has been cast over all the events at ISMAC this week after the news of the Coastal Aviation aeroplane accident at Empakai. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Coastal staff as well as the families of the loved ones who perished in the accident. Most particulalrly to the families of Shatri and Nasibu Mfinanga, who were brothers-in-law to our former DP Co-ordinator Shannon Howlett. Condolences from all of us at ISMAC.

Troy dispatches a penalty kick in ISMAC’s game against Moshi.

The Primary School have been involved in several events this week. The P2’s bussed up to Plaster House as part of their Unit on homes. On Tuesday the Under 9 and Under 11 students competed at SCIS in a football competition. There was an NTAA Swim Meet at KH for several age-groups. Although we were missing some key individuals for this event, we managed to secure second position overall. (See members of our enthusiastic team pictured left)

In the Secondary school our Under 19 footballers recaptured their winning ways after a hard fought win against rivals Jaffrey.

Continuing in the sporting theme, a reminder that next week we will be traveling en masse to Moshi for the Moshi Secondary Sports Weekend.

Next week the teachers and students will have the opportunity to attend the Bullying Workshop that was articulately presented by Keri Kinabo to our parents. 

Please join us on Friday November 23rd at 7.45am in the Performance Area for the annual PTA AGM for Arusha Campus.  At that time, Anna Marsden will talk about the last year at the school and look forward towards the rest of this year.  This will be followed by a question and answer session.

The current members of the PTA under the expert chairing of Maral Sarkis, have been very involved over the last year, and this is an opportunity for us to thank them for all of their hard work.

At the end of the first semester each year we take time to recognise and celebrate our ancillary and support staff, for all the work they do to make our campus safe and a wonderful place to be. The Social Committee organise a party and gifts for each of the 52 staff. If you would like to contribute towards these gifts (funds or goods e.g flour, sugar, teabags, rice) there will be a wrapped box in the Main Reception for any donations.

Many of you will remember Mariam Issa who was one of our successful diploma graduates last year. Mariam is still in Arusha preparing to go to University next year. 

Mariam is offering maths coaching to Primary students who may need the extra help.

Calling all Parents! If you have an old generator, water pump, alternator, starter or in fact any kind of electrical wound motor – then Rajabu, our electrical fundi here at ISMAC would be interested in taking it off your hands as he develops his auto-electric skills.
