Ingraham, Jaro, Luna and Ranbir admire their volcano model erupt in P4/5 this week.

I was as proud as ever this weekend when our Under 15 Girls Football Team played superbly and swept all before them taking points off St Constantine’s, St Jude’s and Orkeeswa.

We have had terrific fun this week from entertaining Shelby and Gale Davis with classroom volcanoes to playing like Argentina in the girls’ Under 15 football. The Under 19 girls also played the best they have ever done so under Mr Adam, their Coach, in their NTSAA tournament against the same opposition. In school the D2’s are making last minute plans to get ready for their final mock exams whilst the whole of MYP and D1 students are making arrangements for their Week Without Walls (MYP) and Project Week (D1).

However, recent news bulletins have made me think a little harder about keeping us all safe in spite of the fun days we have been enjoying lately. To that end, as a start, we will be ensuring all cars that enter the campus display their UWC Parking sticker. If you do not have a car sticker please come to the Main Office where Caroline or I will issue you with one.

Examples of the superb art that chas come out of the Primary School recently.

This week our learning has inspired creativity.Students have used art in P6 to explore angles. In P4/5 the class made 3D models of volcanoes and used the concept of fire to create an art piece. In P1 the students used art to express their reflections from talks by Grandparents. P3 used art to inspire their writing and P2 used art as a challenge. The Nursery and EC class use art everyday to express themselves.

Art is not just one subject it inspires ideas across them all.

February is Black History month
The M5 students welcomed Ms Ester Wadzanai (pictured above) in their I&S lesson on Thursday. Ester is carrying out a research project, exploring community efforts at African educational decolonisation and its effects on young people, their minds and communities in a diverse range of African countries. Ester has visited different schools and grassroots organisations across Africa and visited both Moshi and Arusha campus last week to engage both our MYP and DP students. The students discussed why it would be important to rewrite eurocentric historical narratives about Africa and considered what an Afrocentric perspective would look like. – Photo attached

Week Without Walls
The MYP team is excited about the upcoming Week Without Walls trips which will take place from Monday 13 – Friday 17 February. Letters with information about each of the trips have been sent via our Life platform. If not already, please go to our Life platform to give permission for your child to attend this curriculum trip, update the health and contact info section and check if all ID docs are up to date. Payment for meals should be made to Grace in our accounts office.

M5 Personal Project report writing workshop
The M5 students will spend Friday 10th February at the Matemu Mezzanine doing their Personal Project Report Writing Workshop. This annual M5 workshop is intended to equip the students with skills that will enable them to write good reports. During these cooperative learning sessions students analyse assessment criteria within their expert group, share their findings, and review each other’s draft reports. Everyone would receive constructive feedback which they should then work on along with their supervisor’s written feedback, to edit and complete their final Personal Project report due on March 6th, 2023.

UWC East Africa Careers Symposium: Building 21st Century Skills

UWC East Africa is looking for parents, ISM/UWCEA alumni,and friends of UWCEA who are willing to volunteer in order to help our M5 and D1 students develop the essential skills necessary for future success. Our symposium will focus on topics about how to help students understand the skill sets that are needed for specific careers, how students can acquire those skills, what extracurriculars lead to gaining key professional skills, and how to use those skills on the job or in their career. Your help is necessary in order to make this event a success.
