    Marburg Virus Disease

    Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues,
    cc National Committees

Thank you for your understanding over the last week. I appreciate the many messages of support and questions I have received. We are continuing to monitor this situation carefully and I am pleased that there is very little to report.

Both the African CDC and WHO have reported deploying teams to Kagera region and the latest reports state that there are now 2 confirmed and 29 suspected cases of the virus. In addition, a total of 281 contacts are being closely monitored. As of today, there have been no Marburg-positive cases reported in the Kilimanjaro or Arusha regions, and, as to be expected, health care professionals are on alert.

In school we are mindful of taking a cautious, but proportionate, approach. Whilst trips to town will remain off limits for residential students, both campuses have a local shop that is far less busy than the centre of town. Therefore, it has been decided that a time-limited checkout to visit these shops will be allowed from now. Residential staff will be communicating the details of what this means to students. We also ask our day students to continue to stay away from the town centre and other busy areas.

Off-campus service will remain on hold for a further week and we will continue to evaluate school-organised, off-campus trips on a case-by-case basis. Furthermore, the moratorium on the use of campus facilities by outside groups remains in place.

These measures will be reviewed again in a week, or sooner should changes to the situation warrant.

I take this opportunity to thank you again for your support.

    Kind regards,

    Anna Marsden
    Director
