Welcome to UWC East Africa

Established in 1969 as International School Moshi, the school was the first in Africa to become an International Baccalaureate school, and joined the UWC movement in 2019 as UWC East Africa. We are the 18th UWC school worldwide and the second in Africa.

With campuses in Moshi (Kilimanjaro) and Arusha, UWC East Africa is a long established and fully accredited independent International Baccalaureate (IB) school in northern Tanzania. With a structured residential programme, and the PYP, MYP and Diploma curriculum, UWCEA provides an education for children from both the local and expatriate communities.

Our students are aged from 3 to 19 years. We have about 680 students, on two campuses, from well over 100 different nationalities. As well as day students we have over 300 residential students across both campuses. We provide a broad range of educational offerings whilst maintaining a high standard of individual care.

Our Arusha Campus is a residential and day campus with over 330 students situated on the western side of Arusha. In addition to offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and IB Diploma Programme. Our residential facilities opened in August 2019 for IB Diploma students. The Arusha Campus has a spectacular view of Mt Meru.

The Moshi Campus in Kilimanjaro Region was established 55 years ago and has about 350 students. We introduced the IB Diploma to Africa in the 1970s. The Moshi Campus also offers the PYP and MYP as well as the IB Diploma. Moshi Campus has a number of residential houses for all ages above 10 years. About two thirds the students in Moshi are residential; others are day students living with their families in and around Moshi. The Moshi Campus has a close up and impressive view of Mt Kilimanjaro.
